Car Cleaning Hacks

Spring is upon us and while you are busy tidying up your home, you might as well get in the garage and tidy up your car as well. In this article, we'll go over seven interesting and unique car cleaning hacks you can apply to your own car for a clean and tidy vehicle that is ideal to drive as the weather starts to get warmer.

Car Cleaning Hack No. 1: Clean Your Headlights With Toothpaste

If you have been driving around in the rain and are getting mud splatters on your headlights, then this hack will work wonders. The first thing you will want to do is clean your headlights with soap and water or Windex. Afterward, dab a small amount of baking soda infused toothpaste onto a soft cloth and work it onto the headlight. Once you have removed the outer coating, apply a sealant. This will get your headlights looking sparkly new.

Car Cleaning Hack No. 2: When All Else Fails, Use A Toothbrush

An unused toothbrush is very helpful for reaching those hard-to-reach spots on the inside of your vehicle. Old crumbs that are deep within the upholstery are typically rather difficult to reach with normal tools but a toothbrush can easily go inside and scrape out whatever detritus might be hiding deep in the folds. This granular type of cleaning style will make all the difference between having a car that is tidy versus one that could use more attention.

Car Cleaning Hack No. 3: Keep a Miniature Trashcan

Unlike other cleaning ideas, the miniature trashcan on the passenger side of the car works as a preventative measure for people that tend to toss things like old receipts, cans, and other trash on the floor of the car. This kind of trash can pile up making it more difficult to clean the car. Having a trashcan that holds all of this can make cleaning much easier and the time to clean much faster. Plus, having a trashcan there to hold all of the trash as opposed to having it laying around will have the effect of your car being more spacious.

Car Cleaning Hack No. 4: Use Laundry Stain Remover on Floor Mats

Depending on how deep the stain is on your floor mat, you might want to leave the laundry stain remover on the floor mat for a few hours. Once you have done this, you can toss them into the laundry and then leave them out to dry once they have finished washing. Auto shops can clean your floor mats for you but this will definitely save you quite a few extra dollars in the long run.

Car Cleaning Hack No. 5: Use Clay To Clean Your Car

Clay? How's that going to help? You might be thinking. You would be surprised, however. After you have finished cleaning the exterior of your car with soap and water, you can use clay to get a fine sheen for a finished, quality look. The material in clay glides over the vehicle and picks up anything that protrudes from the surface. You can also find specific clay bars that are ideal for the level of cleaning you actually need.

Car Cleaning Hack No. 6: Use Club Soda

No, it's not just for dieting, club soda also works well when trying to removing those pesky stains from cloth seating. If you have recently spilled something on the upholstery or the stain is new, first, pat the stain dry. Then wet a cloth with club soda and apply it to the stain gently. This can also work with older stains. The trick is to use more club soda. The club soda will dry and you will be able to remove the excess particles to reveal a "like new" product underneath.

Car Cleaning Hack No. 7: Use Vaseline

Vaseline is a fantastic cleaning device for the interior of your car, especially on the dashboard. You'll want to first wipe down the dashboard with some water and a cleaning solution. Once you have dried it with a towel, apply a small dab of vaseline petroleum jelly with a clean and dry rag. This does wonders for giving the dashboard a "new" shine.

These seven hacks are extremely easy to implement today and can be done using products that can be typically found in the house. Happy cleaning!
